Water Aid
At Aldenham Prep School we have focussed on Water as our Eco School topic this year and we have been supporting the charity Water Aid. The children were visited by a representative from Water Aid who gave an assembly explaining the work of the charity. We were shocked to see how many children in developing countries spend hours every day walking to fetch water for their families and then walking all the way home again. It was decided to walk our usual Tuesday lunchtime ‘Walk-a-Mile’ with water to gain an insight into those children’s daily life. Every child from Nursery to Year 6 brought a bucket or similar container to school, we filled it with water and walked – some carrying buckets by hand and some carrying their water on their heads. Thankfully, it was a gloriously sunny lunchtime and any spillages dried quickly. We had great fun at the same time as thinking of those children less fortunate than ourselves. We continued our fundraising with a cake sale.
